uPortal & JASIG The PORTAL project is currently using the open source uPortal software. Whilst a limited number of the work packages within the project deal with uPortal specifically, the majority of the project deliverables relate to generic portal and integration issues. This page provides a resource for those seeking further information about uPortal and JASIG. The JASIG (Java in Adminstration Special Interest Group) are an independent organisation created to share information between educational institutions and companies involved in the development of administrative applications using Java technology. An outline of the mission, goals and activities of the JASIG, as well as news and events, can be found at www.ja-sig.org/ . uPortal is an open source portal under developement by higher education institutions. Information about uPortal, downloads and documentation are available at http://mis105.mis.udel.edu/ja-sig/uportal/ On the 19th November 2002 a UK uPortal Users Workshop was held at The Deep Business Centre, Hull. The day was attended by over 50 representatives from UK Higher and Further Education and by representatives from both JISC and JASIG. Information and presentations from the day can be downloaded from www.fair-portal.hull.ac.uk/19nov02.html As a result of the UK uPortal Users Workshop the JASIG-UK was created. JASIG-UK provides a regional forum for Further and Higher Education institutions implementing, or considering the implementation of Java based ICT solutions. The JASIG-UK website can be accessed at www.ja-sig.org.uk/. The site includes a Register of Interests for those developing portals in UK HE and FE.
